“Jake Hassells” is a nom du buerre given to Jay Cassells many years ago by the law firm partnerwho first employed him.

He works in Queenstown ,NZ where, like others, he is often wrongly suspected of hiding a bushel under a light.

However, occasionally, some light gets through and this site is a typically selfless attempt to share it with the world-and perhaps earn a bob.

For many years Jay was a cartoonist in Sydney and a regular contributor there to the NSW Law Society Journal as well being occasionally published in The Bulletin and the Sydney Morning Herald and other organs. 

It was while in Australia he began accepting commissions for cartoon work and, happily, the demand for these continues today

He has also been active in film and media as a producer and writer.

Regarding all these fish, there was an original flying fish, which amused my young sons,  then a series of prints of such fish, then a poster of a series of them .

 Finally a book of the series, called unremarkably, "Cassells’ Book of Fish”.*

That book has sold out although the poster and prints are still  available and a reprint may  yet happen.

The latest book is Classic Racing F1sh and some copies are now available as are the prints and posters of this series
